What is Proof of Delivery (POD) and why is it important?

Proof of Delivery (POD) is the document confirming that goods were actually delivered to the consignee at the agreed place, date and conditions. It is the official confirmation that the transport cycle has been completed correctly. Typical POD content: delivery date and time; name and signature of the receiver; number of packages delivered; any reservations (visible damage, missing packages, opened packaging); consignee's stamp. POD is important because: 1) Legal proof — in disputes, the POD proves delivery; reservations noted on the POD are the basis for claims; 2) Invoicing — many contracts require payment upon delivery confirmed by POD; 3) Insurance — insurers require the POD with reservations as proof of damage; 4) Traceability — POD closes the logistics cycle and updates shipment status. Paper POD vs electronic POD (ePOD): the traditional POD is the CMR signed at box 24; ePOD uses mobile device electronic signature with delivery photos, GPS coordinates and timestamp, eliminating delays and loss risk.
