Imports from EU countries are not subject to quantity restrictions. All imports are subject to licensing (all goods 50,000 BIF and above). Certificates of inspection are required. The license is normally valid for four to 12 months. Sub-invoicing is prohibited.

Pre-boarding inspection

Due to a provision of the Banque de la République du Burundi (BRB) a quality, quantity and price check is required before shipment. Exceptions are made for shipments under US$5,000 (under US$3,000 for food, chemical and pharmaceutical products).

There are opportunities for short-term business coverage, with a repayment period of up to 12 months and 100,000 € maximum values. Bank guarantees are required.
